For over 35 years, I have worked as an entertainment and real estate attorney. Before entering the legal field, I served as president of an advertising agency, which I founded together with my wife, Lou. We offered our services to major retailers, including Kohl’s and Ace Hardware, among others. I also served as founder and President of Digi-Flicks, Inc. a digital movie production and distribution company and briefly taught Advertising at the Lewis University MBA program. I served on the McHenry County Board (Illinois) for ten years where I wrote and passed their first Ethics Code. My undergraduate journey began with a fine art scholarship, and I ultimately earned a B.A. in applied behavior science with a minor in art. Later, I obtained both a J.D. and an LL.M. from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
In addition to my legal and business pursuits, I have authored two books on United States Presidents, which became the subject of a PBS television series distributed nationally by the former National Educational Network. As an artist, I created and maintained a cartoon strip that appeared in two newspaper publications. My patented anti-piracy movie distribution system was recognized with an award from the Motion Picture Hall of Fame (now defunct) in Hollywood. In addition to the universities mentioned above, I have attended Southern Illinois University, Roosevelt University and Harvard University Business School.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Mary Lou—now Dr. Lou Kurzeja, a veterinarian. Together, with our extended family, we share a daughter and three adult grandchildren.
