Two out of every three people do not have an estate plan. Everyone must have an estate plan to prevent the courts from dictating who their property goes to when they die.

Over 5 years ago I suddenly became a widower and found out that, because we had not planned, my late wife’s property was not going to who she wanted. Tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees, four lawyers, three years, and two court proceedings later the estate was finally resolved. I learned first-hand the expense, time, and uncertainty that not having an estate plan costs a family.

That experience ultimately led me to switch my legal practice area from injury litigation to estate planning. I am passionate about serving families that are overlooked by the government’s “one size fits all” plan. Today’s blended families need planning to prevent unintended consequences.

Becoming a Personal Family Lawyer gives me the tools and support to serve blended families and the unique estate planning issues that they face.

I have remarried and my wife and I have a plan that honors and supports each other, and our biggest pride – our children: Trevor, Ernest, Samantha, Noah and Libby. Our biggest blessing is that the children don’t look at each other as step or half siblings. They are merely family. Our plan reflects that.
