About Cory Hughes

Attorney W. Cory Hughes’s estate planning practice focuses on helping families enhance their lives today and secure their futures tomorrow. He excels in guiding his clients through the often confusing maze of financial and legal decisions to create plans that ensure the well-being of their families and the accomplishments of cherished family goals. His considerable legal experience includes family protection, wealth preservation, and values-based planning as well as planning strategies for unmarried couples and divorced individuals. Whether you are married or single, with a traditional family or blended one, just starting out or looking back on a life well-lived, Cory will help you to craft a plan that achieves your goals for your loved ones today and for years to come.

Cory has chosen to concentrate on a Trusts and Estates practice area because he is passionate about helping families create happy and secure futures. He enjoys educating his community about family wealth planning, wealth preservation, and asset protection of inheritances and frequently speaks to groups about these topics.

I was born and raised in Kingstree, South Carolina and lived there until moving to Greenville to attend Furman University where I graduated in 2000 with a degree in Religion. After attending the University of South Carolina School of Law, I returned to Greenville and have been in private practice since 2004.

At the outset of my career, I focused primarily on Probate and Family Court matters, honing my knowledge of the law as well as my trial skills. In 2010, I started the Law Office of W. Cory Hughes, LLC. Here, I continue to build upon my experience in the Probate and Family Courts and have expanded my practice to include successes in other civil matters as well. I have found that my relationships with my clients are the most rewarding aspects of my job.

After my first year in Greenville as a student at Furman University, I never thought I would live anywhere else. The people of Greenville are wonderful in the ways they work together to make this city better. Following in their footsteps, I volunteer time as a Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 221 in Mauldin. I was a founding member of the board of directors for YouthBASE which provides behavioral and educational support to at-risk children. I also attend Advent United Methodist Church where I served as a caregiver for the Transformers Sunday school class and a member of the Evangelism Committee and Children’s Council. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor cooking and outings with my wife, sons, and dog.

THE PERSONAL FAMILY LAWYER PROMISE

What makes PFL lawyers different?

  • Asset-1how-you-hire
    How you hire us.

We begin with a comprehensive inventory of everything you own, and everyone you love, and consider it all in a working meeting, called a Family Wealth Planning Session, to guide you to clarify your financial life and legacy goals before we draft a single document.

  • Asset-1@3x
    How we plan.

We work with you throughout every life stage to map out the most likely scenarios for you and the people you love, planning for each as your life, the law, and your assets change over time.

  • Asset-1what-we-protect
    What we protect.

Our Life & Legacy Planning process ensures everything that matters most -- from your financial assets to your values, insights, stories and experience -- are captured and documented during your life and cared for over the generations to come.

  • Asset-1transparency
    What you see.

Transparency in our process, and our fees … all of which are flat fees, agreed to in advance, based on your choices and with no surprises, ensuring we stay on the same side of the table - supporting you to make a lifetime of great decisions - every step of the way.

  • Asset-1DElivery
    How we deliver.

Our systems help you get clear and organized, overcoming the exact issues that keep most estate plans from actually working when they are needed most. We help you leave your family with a gift of love, and not a mess.

  • Asset-1work-150x150
    How our plans work.

One-and-done estate plans focused only on money are a recipe for a big mess. We help you throughout every stage of life and be there for the people you love, when you can’t be.
