Marc Meyer never wanted to be an attorney when he was growing up in Champaign, Illinois. But then again, Marc never wanted to be a firefighter or nurse, both professions which he has practiced over the past twenty years. Originally, he wanted to teach - teach college students like his father had before him - but eight years of college and graduate school convinced Marc that his talents lie elsewhere, in the healing professions. But he never lost his love of learning and sharing what he has learned.
Beginning his career in a healing profession, Marc started volunteering as an undergraduate at Cornell University with the Cornell University EMS and Lansing Volunteer Fire Department, and continuing through graduate school at Texas A&M University as a member of the Texas A&M University Emergency Care Team and as an officer with Texas A&M University EMS. After graduate school, Marc decided to shift the focus of his career and joined the City of Houston Fire Department as a Paramedic/Firefighter. Marc has promoted through the ranks and is currently serving the City of Houston as an EMS Supervisor (Captain/Paramedic).
Along the way, Marc met his wife, Sandra Thornton, a Registered Nurse (and no, he did not meet her "on the job!"). Inspired by Sandra's caring attitudes and depth of knowledge, Marc went to nursing school and since 1998, he has been licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing. During those years, Marc has nursing experience in the ED, Neurosurgical ICU, Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units and Long-Term Acute Care units. During this time, Marc and Sandra also had two children, Matthew, 11, and Jennifer, 6.
In 2005, Marc's career took another turn and he entered law school at the South Texas College of Law. In May of 2009, Marc earned his JD degree from South Texas. While in law school, Marc has been active with the American Bar Association Health Law section, serving as a liaison from the Law Student Division. Marc is also a member of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys and three local bar associations, Houston Bar Association, the Woodlands Bar Association and the Montgomery County Bar Association.
In November 2009, Marc was licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas. Marc's practice will focusing on Estate Planning for parents and healthcare providers - groups for which Marc has a special affinity since he belongs to both. Marc also practices in the area of Estate Administration and Guardianships and is certified to serve as an attorney ad litem in the courts of Montgomery and Harris counties. Marc also represents nurses before the Texas Board of Nursing and other health-care personnel in front of the corresponding regulatory agencies.
