Attorney Michelle Stegmaier’s estate planning practice is focused on guiding individuals and families through the often confusing maze of financial and legal decisions required to protect their assets and their children. Michelle effectively uses her passion to help families by educating and making strategic personal planning easy, comfortable and understandable. Having the right documents in place to protect your children and financial assets in the event of an emergency are critical components of every family plan. One of Michelle’s many goals is to assist families in transferring their complete legacy – financial wealth, values and wisdom – to the next generation. Prior to opening her practice, Michelle was an associate attorney at prominent law firms in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, both of which specialized in protecting high net worth families and their businesses through highly sophisticated plans designed to provide protection from estate taxes, probate and litigation. During this time, she experienced how even the most carefully drafted estate plans can fail to serve their purpose without proper ongoing attention from both the attorney and the client. From these experiences, Michelle realized that there had to be a better way to help families create estate plans that work when they are actually needed, and not just in the short-term. In her own estate planning practice, she not only applies the same legal techniques she learned at her previous law firms to people of all financial backgrounds, but she has become an ongoing trusted advisor and lifelong resource as Personal Family Lawyer™. Michelle earned her law degree from Chapman University School of Law, where she was awarded an academic scholarship. While at Chapman, Michelle received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in eleven courses, including various tax and estate planning courses. Immediately after law school, Michelle continued her higher education at Chapman and earned a Masters of Law in Taxation, which enabled her to focus her practice on estate planning matters. Prior to law school, Michelle earned a BA in Business Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Currently, and in addition to being a Personal Family Lawyer™ with the Family Wealth Planning Institute, Michelle is a member of WealthCounsel, LLC, a national organization of trust and estates attorneys and other legal, tax and business professionals who design sophisticated planning techniques for individuals and families.
Michelle lives in the beautiful beach city of San Clemente, California with her husband, Sean. When Michelle is not busy with her estate planning practice, she loves to cook, swim, travel and surf. Michelle is fluent in Spanish.
