The Pursuit of Happyness

I’m travelling to the East Coast and just finished watching The Pursuit of Happyness on the plane ride across.

What struck me the most about Chris Gardner’s story is how much the pursuit of happyness requires immense perseverance, dedication and commitment.

I’m reminded daily that there are NO shortcuts.

Making an impact on the world, achieving big dreams, living an authentic, creative life requires a massive commitment.

Most people talk about it, but very few actually take the action to make it happen.

If you look around you and wonder why you haven’t achieved the success you’ve been longing for, stop wondering and start paying close attention.

Pay very close attention to your priorities, the choices you make and the thought patterns running through your head.

Let’s start with priorities:

Are you spending time every day focused on your vision?  If not, you can stop wondering why you are stuck where you are.

I am distracted frequently from my big vision by the needs of my law practice, which I’ve grown substantially over the past three years and really needs and deserves a hands-on owner who can capitalize on what’s been started there.

I see now that if I am going to make the leap to the next level and become America’s leading legal expert for families who want more wealth, health and happiness, that I have to devote myself to that vision.

I can’t do that as the sole owner of a rapidly growing law firm. So, I’ve decided to bring partners into the firm who can share in the responsibility of making the firm run like a well-oiled machine.

This is an incredibly scary prospect for me.  And, that generally means it’s right on target.

Use that as a lesson.  Find the thing in your life that scares you the most and do it.

I’ve built my practice from nothing over the last three years into an incredible business that takes care of our clients and their families with an unparalleled degree of service and care.  The idea of bringing others in to mess with it is frightening.

And, yet, I know in the long run, it’s the very best thing that could happen and ultimately will allow us to serve our clients even more comprehensively.

So, from now on, every day I will spend some time on preparing to bring law partners into my practice.

First, I will vision out what that would look like ideally. Before beginning any project, this is the most important thing you can do. Determine what you want!

Then, I’ll get clear on who I’ll need on-board to help me realize that vision.  This vision is much too big for me to achieve on my own.

Next, I’ll share that vision with my team.  In this case, that’s my CPA, Mark and my office manager, Bev. By this Friday I plan to meet with them to review the financials and determine what I’d require from the lawyers who will be invited to participate.

From there, I’ll put together an offering letter that will spell out exactly who I’m looking for, what I’ll expect from them, what they can expect from me and projected returns on investment.

My objective is to have at least 3 partners with branch offices throughout Southern California by my birthday in November.

That will free me up to write my book, focus on the promotion of Personal Family Lawyers at the national level, and continue to develop the ways in which a lawyer can bring you more wealth, health and happiness.

Next week I’ll share with you what you can do about the thought patterns that are holding you back.

In my case, my mind is constantly telling me I can’t do it, it’s too much, I should stop this nonsense, be satisfied with my law practice and that I’ll never be able to do it.

Do you think Chris Gardner heard those same thoughts?  He was a homeless African American man with sole responsibility for his toddler son fighting his way onto Wall Street.  And, he did it!

I can just about guarantee you he had a near constant stream of thoughts telling him he’d never be able to do it.

Stay tuned next week and I’ll share with you what I do to deal with those thoughts that don’t get you anywhere near where you want to go.

Mona Vie update

I am absolutely loving my mona vie!  Many of you have asked why I’ve decided to spend my energy getting involved with a MLM company that sells juice.

Well, there’s a few reasons.

1.  I love drinking it myself.  I have more energy and I eat less. My body feels better than ever, even though I have less time than ever for exercise.

2.  My daughter absolutely loves it and it’s keeping her immune system 110%, which means no coughing keeping me up all night.

3.  It gives me a chance to share everything I’ve learned about wealth and success with friends who don’t have the money to invest in a "real" business. We’ll be starting monthly business builder meetings at my house in June for everyone on our team.  I can’t wait to help all my friends start to create their own streams of passive income.

4.  It’s a business I can involve my kids in right away. It’s really important to me that my children see what it’s like to be an entrepeneur and get involved as early as possible.  There’s not much opportunity to get involved in my law practice, but the Mona Vie business has lots of opportunity to involve them and I’ve been using it to introduce critical concepts to my 7 year old.

If you’d like to learn more about this yummy drink that can bring you more wealth and health, come to our next meeting at my house on June 20.

Details to follow.

To your Wealth, Health and Happiness,

Alexis
