Let Go
March 21, 2007 – 12:24 pmMy kids and I just got back from a high-flying trapeze class. Wow! What an incredible experience.
I may not be as exhilarated when the soreness hits, but for tonight - my body is zinging with the energy of flying.
Turns out the trapeze is the perfect metaphor for life. There is no holding on. You have to let go to fly. And, there’s just no way to leap off the platform if you allow your mind to control you.
The minute you just let go and relax, the world opens up and you are flying through the air with ease and grace.
I was scared to death standing on the platform. My heart was beating, my hands were sweaty; I was certain I was going to die. I’m slightly afraid of heights.
My whole body was clenched with fear. My mind yelling NO! Ready, set, bend my knees and hop off the platform.
Woosh, flying through the air. Freedom.
How does this apply to your Family Wealth and your Life?
Because the thoughts that had me tense with fear at the top of the platform, are the same thoughts that keep all of us from achieving our greatest potential in life.
And, if you indulge the fear thoughts that keep you tense, uncertain, holding on, they keep you from making decisions, moving forward, taking the leap to take your life (and your business, family, wealth) to the next level of enjoyment and freedom.
Would you rather spend the rest of your life shaking at the top of the platform or wooshing through the air, free and exhilarated?
If the latter, here’s a strategy I use to make the leap.
Start feeling what you want and stop thinking so much. Don’t let your mind get in the way and stop you from living your dreams.
Close your eyes and feel freedom. What does it feel like? Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you spending your time with? Feel your perfect day and then get a clear picture of what that looks like in your mind.
Now, let your actions be driven by that feeling and vision rather than by the fear thoughts that cloud our minds regularly.
And, if you want to really fly, you can do it at Hollywood Aerial Arts, in Inglewood, CA - Tell Ray I said hello.

PS - Some of you have wondered why I’m sharing so much of myself in such a public way and even said it doesn’t seem very lawyer like. Thank you! I never want to be accused of being too lawyer-like. That would suggest I’m not accomplishing my purpose, which is to really impact your life.
Being a Personal Family Lawyer is about so much more than just saving you taxes and avoiding probate. It’s about helping you be a better family member to the people you love most.
PPS - If you are not a client of Martin Neely & Associates and you have children under the age of 12, you’ll want to bring your kids to Storyopolis in Studio City on March 25 at 1pm and Eric will guide you through 7 steps you can take so the next time you get on a plane or go out without your kids you won’t worry a bit about your kids well-being and care.
